Devonport Stadium - Traffic Impact Assessment
Devonport City Council (Council) proposed to build a new Stadium at the existing Devonport Oval site. The proposal also included the investigation of the partial closure of section of road at the site's frontage to aid in movement of pedestrians.
Project aim
pitt&sherry were engaged by Council to assess the impact of the proposed development to the safety and functionality of the surrounding road network.
What we did
For this project, pitt&sherry staff undertook a site visit and reviewed the operation and performance of the existing road network. pitt&sherry estimated the expected traffic generation and parking demand for the existing sports activities that may potentially coincide with the proposed stadium events, to account for the worst-case scenario.
Parking demand and supply analysis with consideration for convenient walking distances and the overlap of game times for different sports in the precinct were completed.
Traffic modelling, using VISSIM software, was undertaken to analyse the existing road network performance as well post-development.
As the design for the proposed stadium was at the feasibility stage, pitt&sherry also provided advice for the proposed car park layout.
Outcomes
Analysis of the existing and post-development scenario found that the existing parking supplied in the vicinity of the site is expected to accommodate the parking demands of the proposed development.
Analysis of the traffic impact on the existing road network found that, with the proposed development, the existing road network is expected to operate with minimal delays.
